Nuihaku are kosode-type garments with designs in embroidery and gold and silver leaf. In a humorous reversal of proportion, small courtly carriage motifs in finely detailed embroidery are featured alongside large lilies rendered in loose longstitch. The unembroidered areas of the fabric reveal a design of undulating lines in gold leaf. (20100831 h09)
