Kinkozan Sobei VII was a Kyoto potter active in the Meiji era (1868–1912). Like his father, who incorporated coloring techniques from Satsuma ware into Kyoto ceramics, Sobei VII also strived for the revival and export of the latter. This covered jar, characterized by its meticulous gold decoration, was submitted to the World’s Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893.(151117_h18)
