This sutra transcription is named after the island of Chikubushima on Lake Biwa, northeast of Kyoto, where it was passed down at Hogonji temple. Only two scrolls of the original set remain: one at this museum and one at the temple. With its butterfly, bird, and plant motifs, gold borderlines, and relaxed calligraphic style, this is one of the finest decorative sutras of the Heian period (794–1192).(20120828_h031)(20161101_h031)
