A group - young and old, men and women - sits around braziers, listening to the beautiful sounds of a [koto] stringed instrument. Natural movements are expressed through their facial expressions and gestures. This work was exhibited at the Tokyo Industrial Exposition and the painter, Ryu'u, was an exceptionally talented pupil of Kawabata Gyokusho. He played a leading role in the ""Museikai,"" an artistic group stressing naturalism that he established with the painters Yuki Somei and hirafuku Hyakusui.
